He tells me that he’s been doing computer work for 12 years, oh.. okay. What is that, 1998 – 1997? Really, just because I’ve been doing this since 1977 means nothing. When it comes to virus repair it doesn’t matter what you did 5 years ago. The only thing that matters is what you learned yesterday.

 Much of this job is research. Solving mysteries and riddles that many others have faced before you becomes the norm. The problem is that you can easily find 1000 people who have the same issue. You can find 1,500 people offering educated guesses regarding the solution. If you are lucky you will find 3 actual resolutions to the problem.

Last night, Saturday, I was going to have something to eat and go get a drink after work. I've been suffering from a head cold/sinus infection for the last week and most meds haven't lasted too long. Being all snotty in front of customers isn't how I like to roll.

Today, in the midst a sinus headache fog, compounded by the Security essentials 2010 randsome-ware virus and the wonderful steady stream of computers I talked to my customer Robert Breiner. He is a State Farm agent and seems to be one of those guys whos mind is always moving.

The most interesting computer that came is was a HP dc7100. The diagnosis was virus infection but the reality was different. There were infact some viruses but the major problem was lack of memory.

This involved replacing a motherboard on an Acer AP2000. This is an Ultra Compact computer measuring 9.8" x 7.9" x 2.4". Very tiny. I have one on my desk having inherited it from Wendy a year ago. Since it only uses 10 inches of space it is nice to have on my desk, but since it only uses 10 inches it has NO space inside!
